About me :)
Design Philosophy
I am a product designer who creates simple yet elegant products for users by leveraging my previous mechanical engineering background to provide a more rigorously analyzed, user-centered, functional experience. I believe that focusing on the needs and desires of users, as opposed to designing for a solution, will create the most effective pathways for improving the quality of life of all living beings across the world.
Design Experience
Currently, I am contracting with Oxy, working directly with their CEO and Design Lead Anthony Ferrera. In my spare time, I also volunteer at Hack For LA, working on their Expunge Assist project as a UX Design Co-lead.
I’ve had the opportunity to work with Savviest (now acquired by PAIRIN) as a contracted designer, and have volunteered at HackForLA as a UX designer. Most recently, I interned at Oxy, an Arizona-based design agency, working on full-process design from research to ideation to high fidelity designs.
As a side hustle, I’ve designed and sold over a thousand products as a solo designer on eBay, juggling the entire process including designing with Solidworks, manufacturing using 3D printing, managing inventory, and packaging/distributing the end product.
Education
I have a Springboard UI/UX Design Certification with over 700 hours of hands-on coursework involving design skills such as research, synthesis, information architecture, wireframing and prototyping, UI principles and heuristics, and more.
I also graduated with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University along with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Design (also from CMU). As mechanical engineering and UX design have similar thinking processes and design methodologies, I pivoted to UX, feeling that it was more connected with the end user and that my previous experiences could bolster my new path.
Extracurricular Activities
When I’m not ideating ways to actively scale the impact of my next project, I enjoy hanging out with friends and finding new restaurants to eat at , as well as play tennis and watch Formula1. I also dabble in competitive multiplayer activities such as Valorant (Diamond 3 peak), Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (MGE peak), and League of Legends (Plat - Emerald) - all of which have enhanced my skill in collaborating and cooperating with strangers and team members as well as my ability to work and adapt under pressure. I also like to listen to various genres of music, such as pop, alternative, EDM, rap, kpop, jpop, R&B, and French rap.
DESIGN EXPERIENCE
Oxy, UX Designer (contractor), August 2023 - Present / Case Study Link
Led design efforts in stealth startup AI product - collaborating with product manager and developers on cross-functional team, undergoing comprehensive comparative and competitive research, identifying key stakeholders and customer needs, crafting user stories and creating user flows, developing product sitemap, and wireframing
Created interactive prototype using dynamic variables for the purpose of fundraising and potential stakeholder review
Led new web design project as sole designer while interfacing with clients and coordinating with Oxy‘s lead designer and CEO in agile environment
Helped support developers in handoff process with annotations and handoff Loom recordings
Oxy, UX Design Intern, May 2023 - August 2023 / Case Study Link
Conducted extensive UX research, including competitive and comparative analysis, to identify market opportunities
Improved knowledge of established design patterns and developing skill in auto-layout, keeping responsiveness and developer accessibility in mind
Worked on end-to-end design project that launched, spanning branding, moodboards, user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes - potentially impacting 70% of eventgoers (tools used: Figma, Asana, FigJam, GlooMaps, Slack, Zoom, BrowserStack, MarkUp)
Hack For LA, UX Design Co-lead, UX Designer (volunteer), December 2022 - Present / Website Link
Goal: Work on Expunge Assist project to help former criminals clear their records in order to help them get a second chance in society and help them find work
Duties/Results:
Helping to audit, maintain, and update existing design system, learning about building design systems and standardizing organization using variables, and creating wireframes and user flows for mobile (tools used: Figma, FigJam)
Managing design team, coordinating with UX research, content, developers, and PMs to organize task flow and handoff process on GitHub
GameOVA, UX Designer (designathon), October 2022 - October 2022 / Case Study Link
Goal: Explored accessibility and inclusion challenges in the gaming space, leading to the creation of a social media platform prototype with a cooperation score feature
Duties/Results: Achieved Best Overall award among 38 teams by conducting extensive research, synthesizing findings, and developing usercentric wireframes and interactive prototypes, and addressed issues by incorporating user feedback, increasing our task success rate by 66.7% (tools used: Figma, Maze)
Savviest, UX Designer (contractor), March 2022 - April 2022 / Case Study Link
Goal: Audit, redesign, and test resume/experiences page to better convey core value and increase ease of use / intuitiveness for first-time users
Duties/Results: Identified existing problems, ideated on solutions and created low to high-fidelity wireframes, performed usability testing, implemented changes from stakeholder feedback including improved information architecture, use of space, and clarity (tools used: Figma, FigJam)
